Description

Coriander - A Treasure for Beekeepers and Farmers, Easy to Grow, High Honey Yield

Coriander is an annual plant from the celery family, known for its wide use in the food industry, herbal medicine and as a valuable source of bees. Thanks to its unique properties and high honey yield, which is about 150 kg/ha, coriander is a plant particularly valued by beekeepers. It is on the list no. 1 of honey plants covered by ARiMR subsidies under the “Cultivation of Honey Plants” eco-scheme project, which makes it attractive also for farmers who care about biodiversity.

Appearance and Characteristics

Coriander produces erect, branched stems that reach a height of up to 70 cm. At the ends of the stems develop white or pale pink flowers, gathered in umbels, which attract bees. This makes coriander not only a useful plant, but also an aesthetic addition to the landscape.

Growing Conditions

Coriander does not have many soil requirements, which makes it easy to grow. It grows best in permeable, light and fertile soils, preferring sunny and wind-sheltered locations. Dry and sunny summers are conducive to its development, but young plants need an adequate amount of water in the soil before they develop a leaf rosette. In the later stages of growth, coriander copes better with higher temperatures and lower air humidity. However, you should watch out for excessive humidity, which can promote the occurrence of blight diseases.

Optimal Sowing Standards

The recommended sowing rate for coriander is 12-15 kg/ha. This rate ensures optimal plant development, and early sowing allows for the highest yields. Coriander is resistant to low temperatures, which allows it to be grown in various climatic conditions.

Coriander is a universal plant that, thanks to its honey-producing properties and wide application, is an excellent choice for both farmers and beekeepers. Easy to grow, resistant to difficult weather conditions and valued in environmental protection projects, coriander is a reliable ingredient in any honey crop.
